Committment to Environment

Bluewater is committed to the installation of a comprehensive Environmental Management Programme that underwrites our environmental policy. We are also committed to continual improvement in our environmental performance through the implementation of the Environmental Management System and the establishment of measurable environmental objectives and targets.

Through this commitment, Bluewater has achieved accreditation to the International Environmental Management Standard, ISO 14001.

Waste Management

Waste management and recycling initiatives have been implemented across all tenants and operations at Bluewater with all waste being either recycled or burned to create energy.

Water Management Strategy

Our desire to deliver an outstanding natural environment and high quality public access to open space led to the incorporation of 1.5 million plantings within the boundary of Bluewater and its approach roads, whilst the inclusion of seven lakes necessitated a progressive water management strategy.

The Lake system form a class 1 aquifer servicing water to South East England, hence the importance of achieving accreditation to the International Environmental Management Standard, ISO 14001.

With Bluewater being located within the Green Belt and being proximate to a high-density residential area it was necessary for Lend Lease, the developers, to take the environment into consideration from the very beginning of construction. Through voluntary arrangements monitored by the Borough Council and the Environment Agency, there was constant noise, water and air pollution monitoring during the construction phase and beyond.

Additionally, Lend Lease implemented a strictly monitored delivery schedule ensuring that heavy goods vehicles only travelled on approved routes and used local roads only after prior agreement with the residents.
